THE LIGHTHOUSE TRIO
Tim Garland reeds / Gwilym Simcock piano/ Asaf Sirkis drums and percussion
Tim Garland - Grammy winner for arrangements on "the New Crystal Silence" with Chick Corea
Gwilym Simcock - Barclaycard Mercury nominated pianist 2011
NEW CD ON ACT RECORDS NEXT SPRING | NEW TOUR STARTS MAY 2012
The hugely successful Lighthouse Trio are back with their original personnel after two years working on other projects. Their 2009 critically acclaimed double album Libra (Globalmix) mixed rhythms from the Middle East, Spain and South America with highly interactive and lyrical jazz and featured the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra in a set of pieces recorded at the worlds most famous studio, Abbey Road Studio Two. But as can be heard on this album Asaf Sirkis – (playing a custom built percussion set of frame drums, bass Udu, Hang drum and more), Tim Garland on saxes and bass clarinet, and celebrated pianist Gwilym Simcock, are an orchestra unto themselves.
Their new trio project will feature new work from both Tim Garland and Gwilym Simcock, two of the most outstanding composers of our time in both jazz and classical genres. All three musicians are regarded as among the very best in the world on their respective instruments.
