Contemporary Jazz
Ephie Resnick was born in New York City and trained in classical trombone at Julliard. Now in his seventies Ephie's career spans over 50 years as a professional jazz musician and the list of other musicians he has played with is too huge to list but includes, amongst others, such jazz greats as Cab Calloway, Pearl Bailey, Eddie Condon, Roy Eldridge, Bud Freeman, Stan Getz, Woody Herman, Gene Krupa, Buddy Rich, Zoot Sims, Lennie Tristano, Teddy Wilson, Kai Winding and Willie the Lion Smith. He has also played with a variety of rock and pop bands including The Bee Gees, The Four Tops and Englebert Humperdink, and has worked for Danny Kaye, Jack Benny, Woody Allen and Norman Mailer. The albums featured here were produced during his eight year escape to London during a period in his life when he felt trapped in New York. During that stay he met and played with a number of British musicians as well as becoming something of a mentor for many of them. He also played at a number of society parties with the world renowned orchestra headed by veteran bandleader Lester Lanin. The musicians included: Dick Morrissey, Alex Dankworth, Huw Warren, Tim Whitehead, Martin Speake, Mike Pickering, Steve Watts, Julian Siegel, Chris Gibbons, Andrew Jones, Carl Dewhurst, Dave Whitford and Jean-Victor de Boer. He currently lives and works in New York City and continues to feature regularly with a number of bands.
New York Survivor (SRCD 1-2) features Ephie Resnick on trombone and piano, Chris Gibbons on bass guitar on Miller's Glen and Clayton's Caper, Andrew Jones on guitar, Mike Pickering, drums and percussion, Julian Siegel, saxes, Steve Watts, double bass except on Miller's Glen and Clayton's Caper.
