At just 26 Gwilym Simcock has already established himself as one of the greatest pianists that this country has ever produced. His outstanding playing and compositional skills have moved him into the forefront of the British Jazz Scene. This year will see amongst other great performances a major composing commission for the Proms on August 9th when Gwilym takes to the stage with the BBC Concert Orchestra. “No young musician outside the pop world has moved as fast into the upper reaches of his profession as Simcock” 11/11/2007 Stuart Nicholson, Observer
“a superb statement of intent”. 21/11/2007 BBC Music Magazine, Gary Booth, Five Stars***** “This is immaculate, airborne jazz, and almost supernaturally beautiful”. 18/10/2007 Alan Brownlee, Manchester Evening News
TOURING OCTOBER/NOVEMBER (other dates may be available) World-renowned jazz singer Norma Winstone launches her second album “DISTANCES” with Italian pianist Glauco Venier and German saxophonist Klaus Gesing in March 2008 on the prestigious ECM label. The group will be touring in the autumn of this year to promote the album. Like the first album (released in Europe on the Universal label), the music is a collection of intriguing and original works, ideal for chamber music settings and festivals. 'In my music there has to be communication. I always try to be part of the group sound, not the singer that has to be accompanied', says the British vocalist Norma Winstone. www.bashomusic.co.uk/CHAMBERJAZZ.pdf Chris Laurence has been the driving force behind many projects across all musical styles – classical, jazz, rock and film music. Despite his vast experience and huge reputation, Chris has never released an album under his own name. His first CD “New View", on Basho Records in 2007! This features long time collaborators Frank Ricotti on vibraphone, John Parricelli on guitar, Martin France on drums and very special guest singer Norma Winstone. The compositions featured on the album are all by musicians Chris has worked with over the years including Steve Swallow, Joni Mitchell, John Surman & Kenny Wheeler. "a superb album, initially easy on the ear, yet revealing fresh subtleties each time it's played" Chris Parker Vortex website www.bashorecords.com/laurence.htm
NEON is a new collaboration led by legendary UK saxophonist Stan Sulzmann featuring two of the hottest stars on the UK jazz scene, pianist Gwilym Simcock and vibraphonist Jim Hart. This is fresh, vibrant, exhilarating, uplifting, melodic music of the highest order played by three virtuosi. Neon’s first album “Here to There” will be launched on Basho Records in the Spring of 2008 and the band will be available for dates throughout the year. This is a great band for festivals, clubs and music venues whose aim is to reach beyond the conventional jazz audience. The line-up works in a variety of settings including acoustic spaces such as churches and has been extremely well received by audiences so far.
“British saxophonist Tim Whitehead not only suggests a little of Sonny Rollins' brusque lyricism at times (as well as plenty of John Coltrane's headlong energy) but also the living legend's inviting inclination to spin long improvisations off simple, even cheesy, song hooks. The big bonus is an absolutely inspired performance from Liam Noble, whose piano links touch on Keith Jarrett's songlike phrasing and McCoy Tyner's thunder - except that his playing all over this set supplies a constantly changing stream of personal variations on those methods, and plenty more”. John Fordham, The Guardian

In Daryl
Runswick in Droves, Daryl does everything. And for him, everything means
one hell of a lot. No-one has straddled the jazz, pop and classical worlds
as he has. Famed composer, arranger, performer, singer, pianist, bass
player, guitarist, broadcaster, producer and teacher, he has appeared
with everyone from Elton John to Pierre Boulez to Ornette Coleman to Simon
Rattle to Sarah Vaughan. His music has been played by the BBC Symphony
Orchestra, in the opera house, and by the Mercury Award and Grammy nominees
Zero7. Now Daryl Runswick in Droves brings a lifetime of varied experience
and two dozen different skills to bear in a completely new kind of music.
Throughout his multiple careers Daryl has been moving toward a synthesis
of the improvising skills of jazz with the more complex structures of
contemporary concert music: and www.bashomusic.co.uk/daryl.pdf
